It's about make a art "incised" in a metal board, cover the scratched area with paint, and stamp in the paper.

Working with metal is more complex than woodcut.

What means Giclée?


Giclée is the modern kind of Print. Is a digital print.

As the tradicional styles of printmaking, the art prints are numbered and signed by the artist.

What Means Woodcut? (part 2)


The main tools for a woodcut work are the gouge. But many engravers, mostly self-thaught, uses a lot of other tools, like pocket knife and utility knife.



To stamp the paper on the matrix, is used a press.
In the picture below, we have one of the appropriate models for woodcut.



What you engrave in the wood board, become inverted in the paper print, like a mirror.
Everything who was carved turns white in the print (if the paper is white, of course).
These two things is what most confuses the mind of beginners in this technique.

What means Woodcut?

Woodcut is a kind of engraving.

This is basically consists in engrave a image in a wood board, cover with paint and "stamp" in the paper.

The wood board with engraved art is called matrix, it's like a handmade stamp. With the matrix it's possible to make several prints of the same work.

This is my version of a Tom Jobim's photo.

This is the first woodcut I did, after joining the Engraving Group.
I tried to do something simple, cause I didn't have much skills in wood carving in this time, but still have a  lot of hard work with this piece.
